If you build it, they will come.
The saying held true for the new Hi Scores as crowds filled the southwest location of the “barcade” on a recent Friday night, playing old-school video games and enjoying food and craft beer.
Expanding to the second location on Blue Diamond Road in March, the business still operates its original Hi Scores on Stephanie Street in Henderson, which opened in 2012.
The restaurant serves delicious, traditional bar food, including burgers, sandwiches and pizzas, while providing what the now-shuttered Insert Coins (a former downtown Las Vegas bar-arcade) failed to offer: free, working games for paying customers. The arcade here highlights nostalgic favorites, including Pac-Man, Asteroids, Space Invaders, Frogger, Dig Dug and more.
The restaurant kicks up each dish by suggesting which type of beers would pair well. The Hangover Fries (served with fried egg, chorizo, cheese and pico de gallo) pair well with an amber ale, while the staff suggests a stout with the barbecue chicken sandwich (topped with cheese and bacon) and fries. For the mahi mahi tacos (served with citrus mayonnaise, cabbage, pico de gallo, and rice and beans), a Belgian witbier is suggested, and a hefeweizen complements the chicken and artichoke pizza (topped with garlic cream sauce, chicken, artichokes, spinach and mozzarella).
Breakfast is served all day and also comes with beer pairing suggestions because it’s 5 o’clock somewhere.
Most dishes range between $6 and $12. Because the establishment is primarily a bar, diners and gamers must be 21 or older. It’s a great spot to celebrate special occasions or blow off some steam after a long day.
Hi Scores Bar-Arcade is open 24 hours daily, but the arcade portion is open from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. Happy hour is from 3 to 6 p.m. weekdays.
